I have been interested in photography since my childhood and have always enjoyed taking photos.  Back in 2006 I decided at 35 years of age it was time to learn how to take a photo properly.  Little did I know the journey I was about to embark on would turn it into my new favorite past time.  I started out with my first prosumer camera, the Panazonic FZ-50 which shot in RAW files and I took my first shot of the Aqueligia flower your see.

Photography has taught me to look at things in a different way.  One of the first rules I learnt was the rule of thirds and to not take a photo dead centre like the Aqueligia image you see.  I began to concentrate on aperture, shutter and iso which taught me all about exposure and depth of field.  As I was shooting in RAW I was required to learn how to post-process your images (editing some call it, but to me I found this difficult to justify).  I was convinced by an experienced photographer, post processings main aim

should be to put back into the image what a digital camera takes away.  This includes such key components as contrast, sharpness and removing the noise some cameras add to the image (a lot in terms of my old Panasonic FZ-50).  After around 9-11 months I found I needed to meet others I could discuss my understanding with, this led me to join the Just Digital Photo Club in Northampton.

The JDPC has taught me a great deal with hands on pratical evenings and days out.  One of the most enjoyable areas from the weekly meetings is the opportunity to discuss photography techniques from composition, portraits, lighting, macro, painting with light, studio work and post-processing.

I will be updating images on this site through my journey of photography over the coming years, please come back often and review them if you like those you see currently.
